Call for papers: special issue on the political economy of transitions to a clean air

Economics of the Environment and Development

Deadline for paper submission: march 31, 2025

Guest editors: Jorge Alexander Bonilla (Universidad de Los Andes); Rohini Support (School of Economics, Delhi)

Economics of the Environment and Development you want to publish a special issue on the political economy of transitions to a clean air. The number will be released by Jorge Bonilla, of the University of The Andes, and Rohini

Support from the School of Economics, Delhi.

The journal Economics of the environment and development are invited to submit papers for a special issue focused on the political economy of transitions to a clean air. This issue, edited by Jorge Bonilla, of the University of The Andes, and Rohini Support, of the School of Economics, Delhi, aims to explore policy approaches to improve urban air quality, especially in regions of the global south that are urbanizing rapidly.

🌍 Context and purpose

While many cities around the world are faced with poor air quality, the challenges faced by urban centers in rapid growth in the global South are different. Issues such as weak governance and limited resources tend to hinder the transition to cleaner fuels and an efficient public transportation, even when these changes improve the well-being. This special issue aims to create a corpus of knowledge on the policy and institutional factors that influence the success or failure of policies in these contexts.

The special issue will collect case studies that analyze political reforms specific, successful or not, by examining the political economy of the formulation and implementation of policies. Your goal is to answer questions such as:

Why are some policies that improve the well-being applied more easily in certain cities than others?

What types of transfer agreements can facilitate the change?

📝 Guidelines for the submission

Deadline: Send the articles prior to march 31, 2025.

Shipping process: We recommend sending the items with in advance, since they will be processed as they are received. All items shipped will be subject to the standard review process in function of its quality and relevance to the special issue.

How to submit articles: articles should be submitted on-line through: https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ede. During the first step of the shipping process, in the field ‘special issue’, the authors must select ‘clean Air’. The authors must also indicate in your cover letter that the manuscript is for the special issue, ‘The political economy of transitions to a clean air’.

Format: articles may be qualitative or a combination of qualitative and quantitative research. Each article should focus on a case study of a policy or concrete reform related to the quality of urban air.

Request for proposals for research on interventions to promote the advancement of women in the economic sphere in the Global South

It is increasingly recognized the fact that all of the economic profession is characterized by an underrepresentation of women. The profession has several components: students and teachers from different levels in the universities, the ecosystem editorial (magazines, editors, referees), conferences and decision making roles and leadership. Although it is gradually being recognized, the general problem of gender imbalance, are not adequately understood the precise contours of the under-representation and it is necessary to document them.

The Economic Association International (IEA) calls for research proposals well-defined that generate evidence on ‘what works’, that is to say, what interventions are effective and successful to reduce the gender gap in the economy,. The evidence can be obtained, for example, through pilot trials of new interventions or analyzing the impact of existing policies. We hope that even a few successful studies may help to modify the professional practice thanks to the power of examples and concrete models.

Call for proposals:

We will give priority to the research proposals that focus on any of these four countries: Argentina, Colombia, Ghana and Mexico. , however, we are also open to proposals of other developing countries.

Submission deadline: November 15, 2024.

For more information about the IEA-WE and the call for proposals, please visit the website of the IEA-WE.
