We are pleased to announce the Winter School, EAERE 2025 on the topic of the economics of biodiversity, organized by the University Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) in collaboration with the European Association of Environmental Economists and Resources (EAERE). The Winter School will take place from 19 to 24 January 2025 at the Centre Jean 23, Annecy-le-Vieux, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France.

Focus: Economics of biodiversity

This year’s theme, ‘Economics of biodiversity’, will explore the intricate connections between the economy, biodiversity, and nature. Based on the report Dasgupta on the economics of biodiversity (2021), which stresses that the economy is ’embedded’ in nature, the school will examine how the economic activity is limited by the biosphere, and how sustainable development depends on biodiversity.

Through five lectures given by experts, participants will address such fundamental issues as:

How do we measure biodiversity for economic analysis and accounting of natural capital?

What role can play the nature-based solutions to address the environmental externalities of local and global?

What is the contribution of biodiversity to the resilience of economic and insurance?

What role for public policy and financial markets to address the loss of biodiversity?
