Important information about the Congress
Dear friends and colleagues
We are truly excited about our upcoming first congress of LAERE! Thank you to everyone who has registered and is coming to Bogota to strengthen our network. We have over 100 presentations lined up, along with insightful plenary sessions featuring Ben Groom, Paulina Oliva and Juan Pablo Rud.
We have many updates to share with you, so this is a long message. Here you will find all the last-minute information about the congress.
First, thanks to the University of Bologna, we will have a pre-conference workshop on experimental economics. Registered members can join this exceptional workshop, but places are limited. Please find the information and instructions in this link.
Many of you have been asking about the opportunity to publish in the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management (JEEM), one of the most recognized journals in our field. JEEM has not only provided generous support to this congress but also organized a special issue of the journal based on the works presented at our congress. Details can be found in this link.
Additionally, there are different ways to get involved in LAERE activities:
- Electing Our Next President. We have two candidates, both deeply involved in LAERE activities. One is Oscar Melo, a founder of the association and a board member since its early stages. The second candidate is Adan Martinez, who has been part of our board for the last two years. All LAERE members have the right to elect the new president. We invite you to review the experience of the two candidates and choose your preferred candidate using this link . Final results will be announced at the general assembly during the congress!
- Renewing Our Board. We are deeply thankful to Alejandro Lopez Feldman, previous president of LAERE, Francisco Alpizar and Nathaly Rivera, who are finishing their participation on the LAERE board. As a result, we have open positions. If you are interested, more information about how to apply is available in this link
Parallel sessions will be announced shortly. During these sessions, each presenter will have 25 minutes: 15 minutes for their presentation, 5 minutes for the comments from the discussant, and 5 minutes for Q&A. We hope this ample time will help you get valuable feedback to improve your work. More details can be found in this link . Please remember that all presenters must upload their works by March 10 to a repository that we will share with all of you.
Instructions for poster are posted in this link . Posters are important in the research consolidation process, and we encourage all of you to visit them. You will have the opportunity to vote for the best one.
This congress is the first of many we expect to hold. Therefore, we are inviting institutions interested in hosting the second LAERE Congress in 2027 to express their interest using this link . We hope to discuss and choose the next venue during the congress.
Thanks to the generous contribution of our sponsors –JEEM, IDRC, CAF, BID, University of Bologna, EfD, and Universidad de los Andes– we are able to offer around 80 scholarships to our environmental economists, with an emphasis on students and professionals from the Global South. We have provided memberships, full and partial registration waivers, accommodation, and transportation support to members worldwide to join this congress.
We anticipate engaging academic discussions, insightful policy debates, and the strengthening of our global network of environmental and resource economists. Together, we work on solutions to pressing crises, including climate change, biodiversity loss, energy transition, distribution and justice, pollution, and the pursuit of sustainable development in our subcontinent.

Thank you all for contributing to the consolidation of environmental and resource economics in Latin America!
